Elevating outdoor living space with a luxurious rooftop terrace for penthouse residents and tenants alike, becomes the envy of Chinatown’s neighborhood. This 6,000 square foot one-of-a-kind project transformed a barebones roof deck into a beautiful and calming oasis with compelling vistas of downtown Boston. DMLA’s design vison pushes-away from the “expected” and creates a contemporary and delightful series of recreation spaces. Expanded plantings, thoughtful screening, and rich natural elements combine to create a secluded urban deck that maximizes the alfresco living environment for this boutique multifamily residence.
Sensitive roof loading for this historic building was a driver for much of the spatial and material choices throughout. Ideal for both intimate gatherings and larger entertainment opportunities, this flexible space features strip lighting to accent grade changes, a back lit feature fence, shade structures, and planters with swaying grasses, fragrant lavender, and sage and visually pleasing cedar to create a unique inner-city garden retreat.
